Selection Criteria for London Friend Volunteer Supervisor

At the moment, we have current supervision time slots of a face to face Supervision Group on a Tuesday afternoon (2-4pm) and an on-line evening Supervision group (2 hours - can be any evening). If these times slots are not suitable to you, we would still welcome your application as a Volunteer Supervisor and can discuss alternative time slots
ROLE DESCRIPTION
- To provide clinical supervision for volunteer counsellors in the London Friend counselling service;
- To meet the ethical baseline requirements of the BACP; this may be either on an individual basis or a group basis;
- To work in accordance with London Friend policies and procedures (equal opportunities, confidentiality, complaints, etc.), and lines of accountability;
- To attend meetings of supervisors or other clinical management meetings as agreed in the supervisors’ contract;
- To record supervision attendance, and to carry out other administrative procedures as requested;
- To provide short written supervision reports, within ethical guidelines, if required by the supervisee’s training institution, by London Friend or to support the volunteer counsellors in gaining accreditation;
- To supervise allocated counsellors’ clinical work so as to enable London Friend to fulfil its clinical responsibility to its clients;
- To undertake to receive supervision of supervision on a frequency to be agreed with London Friend;
- To undertake on-going continuous professional development that will support them in this role

London Friend asks that you fulfil the following criteria:
Essential
- Must demonstrate understanding of and commitment to supervising in way that is affirmative of counsellors’ and clients’ identity as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender;
- Must demonstrate ability to deal with issues of sexuality and of gender, including a client’s uncertainty about these;
- Must be a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist with a minimum of three years post qualification experience;
- Must have some experience of providing supervision;
- Must have a qualification in supervision or be enrolled on a recognised supervision course;
- Must demonstrate ability to work with a variety of theoretical orientations;
- Must demonstrate a commitment to Equal Opportunities;
- Must demonstrate an understanding of the issues faced by people living with HIV;
- Must demonstrate an understanding of the issues faced by people with complex mental health needs
Desirable
- Experience of supervising individual, couple and group work;
- Experience of working within a low-cost voluntary sector counselling setting.
