This Intersex Solidarity Day, 8th November 2021, we have invited our volunteer Diana James to introduce the re-launch of our Intersex peer support group InterWednesday starting on 17th November 6 pm at 86 Caledonian Road!
InterWednesday is a group for all intersex, DSD, VSC people; although we are meeting at the wonderful London Friend who are an LGBT+ organisation, this group is for ALL intersex people regardless of their sexuality. This is going to be a friendly group where you can meet other intersex folk and discuss (or not!) the issues that you face. What we are not is a counselling group, counselling is handled by another part of London Friend who are highly qualified and experienced in supplying this service.
These meetings will be confidential and anything you discuss around intersex issues and yourself will stay within it. This group aims to be friendly and open to all intersex people, we know how varied are our experiences of being intersex and how this has affected us. The pressures of what many of us have lived through and are currently living with has affected us not only physically but also mentally. The pressures of sometimes growing up without it being discussed or kept a secret until we learn of it ourselves has had an incalculable impact on our mental health. As has how we are often portrayed or seen by wider society, the majority of whom have no idea of who we are.
So we would really welcome you to come to the group, where you will see friendly faces who want no more than to give you a space where you can be yourself and not need to watch each word. Where you are not alone, we do not and cannot share exactly the same experiences but we all come from a similar place and many will be aligned. We want you to be able to share if you wish or just listen to others if you do not, no one will ask you questions or demand answers, this is your space.
