What was your experience of coming out as an LGBT+? 

No one was hugely surprised(!) but I was lucky with close friends and family. My grandma was the person I waited longest to tell.

What was the definitive moment in making this decision?

I'd had boyfriends for a while and trying to hide it was becoming difficult, and I wanted to introduce someone to my family.

What questions do people need to consider before coming out?

Not all coming out experiences are brilliant. Sometimes people respond well straight away, other times they don't, and for some it takes them time.

♥ If you're coming out to parents, family or housemates in particular, make sure you consider your personal safety.

♥ If it doesn't go to plan, do you have somewhere to go?

♥ If there are some people you're already out to, and you consider them a trustworthy network, ask if they can help if you need it.

♥ If you're LGBTQ+ and younger (16-25), charities like akt can help if you've come out at home and it's not gone well.
