Chemsex Survey report
This report is based on a survey of LGBTQ+ people who use substances conducted by London Friend and LGBT HERO. The survey received 334 responses.
Key findings include:
- Mental health is the primary concern associated with chemsex among LGBTQ+ people
- Four in ten LGBTQ+ Londoners who use drugs have never sought support
- Half are unaware of chemsex-specific support services
- Mainstream services are often seen as lacking understanding of LGBTQ+ experiences
- Shame and stigma remain significant barriers to accessing care.

This supplementary report is based on engagement with Antidote service users and healthcare professionals supporting people around chemsex through a survey and focus groups. The finding delve deeper into the experiences of people accessing support for chemsex and the healthcare professionals who support them.

These reports include a number of recommendations to improve support services for LGBTQ+ people who use drugs and alcohol, and who engage in chemsex. They will be helpful to policy makers; commissioners; service providers; front line healthcare staff; community activists; and researchers.
These reports are based on work carried out by London Friend as part of a needs assessment for the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham in November 2025.
