Chemcheck
Chemcheck is a groupwork programme for gay and bisexual men engaged in chemsex, and would like to make changes to their use.
Chemcheck is an initiative combining the experience & knowledge from the teams at Antidote, The Rise Partnership & Burrell St Sexual Health Service. It’s a 6 week programme designed specifically to help you address questions, concerns and make changes to your chem use in a friendly, safe non-judgemental environment
Who is it for?
Chemcheck is for men 18+ from the boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark or Lewisham who identify as a Gay, Bi, trans or MSM (men who have sex with men). The group is aimed at people looking to take steps to ensure greater control, reduce or stop their use & would like to explore some of those issues which could potentially lead to more problematic use.
What does it involve?
Chemcheck is a group programme which runs over 6 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 18.00 until 20.00. We will explore a series of themes which will help you to understand the bigger issues around your use, and support the changes you want to make - such as:
- Self Esteem & Confidence
- Sex & Sexuality
- How to Make changes
- Relationships & intimacy
- Negotiating boundaries
- Relaxation & stress management
Chemcheck is an opportunity for you to explore your relationship to chem use in a safe, supportive space, and dentify with other men who are in the same position as you. To ensure that you get the most out of the programme, we ask that you commit to all 6 sessions.
Chemcheck is run as a closed group, meaning that once each six week cycle begun, new members will not be permitted to join that particular group. Anyone referring to join once a new group has begun, will be assessed for the next group cycle.
Referral Criteria
You are welcome to self-refer or we can accept referrals from your keyworker or other professionals who may be involved in your care. You can download a referral form here. Chemcheck is a group programme and may not be suitable for everybody. You will need to have completed an individual assessment to see if the group is suitable for you. All Chemcheck sessions take place at Burrell St Sexual Health Centre, 4 – 5 Burrell St, London SE1 0UN
Chemcheck is part of Rise, a programme of HIV prevention work funded by the London Boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. Priority for places will be given to men resident in these Boroughs.
